District News Metro Council Update posted by Graham Honaker

- Following a great deal of debate, the Metro Council approved the appointment of Rosemary Mattingly to the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Protection Board by a 14-6 vote with 2 members voting present. Councilman Kramer had requested that the appointment be sent back to the Mayor for reconsideration, but his motion failed. Following the controversial selection of Mrs. Mattingly, Councilman Kramer had hoped the Mayor would reconsider the appointment and work with the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire board to bring resolution to the matter.
- Metro Councilman Kelly Downard (District 16) has filed a new resolution calling for the suspension of future payments and reduction of membership dues for participants of the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC). The resolution calls for Metro Government to suspend future payments to KLC until they meet the 30 findings outlined within the report issued by the office of the State Auditor.
The Resolution calls for KLC to do the following:
1. Give the Council a report on how each of the more than 30 findings made against KLC by the office of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Audit have been addressed.
2. Significantly reduce future membership dues and partially refund dues from the three previous years.
3. Implement open meetings and open records policies consistent with state law.
- At the December 17 meeting, Councilman Kramer honored State Representative Steve Riggs. Representative Riggs (pictured to the right of Councilman Kramer below) was recognized for his service and work on behalf of cities throughout the state
