Metro Council Update

-At the December 3rd Metro Council meeting, the Council approved a resolution that supports the JBS "Swift" company to remain in the Butchertown neighborhood

-At the December 3rd meeting, the Council approved a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) concerning an $800,000 grant to construct bus stop improvements and pedestrian access upgrades on public rights-of-way.

 -At the November 19th Metro Council Meeting, the Council unanimously passed a resolution that requests the State Department of Transportation to develop a permitting process for "steet furniture". Street furniture includes the concrete benches that feature advertising and can be found on right-of-ways throughout the county.

-At the November 19th meeting, the Council also approved a settlement with 834 Louisville Firefighters for overtime pay. The settlement totals 45 million dollars with payments to be made in December, March, and July.

-The Metro Council also passed an ordinance requiring companies receiving city tax dollars for development projects to show how the money was spent if the information is requested by the mayor or the council

-The Council continues to review legislation dealing with ethics reform for Metro Government and will be reviewing resolutions that deal with term limits for the Metro Mayor and Mayoral succession

-The Council will elect a new President on January 7, 2010

-At the December 3rd meeting, Trent Savage served as a page at the Council Meeting. Trent is pictured above and is a District 11 resident. Trent is a fifth grader at Tully Elementary where he is in the advanced program. He also volunteers as a Computer Lab Assistant and computer buddy to some of the younger students. Currently he's a member of Tully's Basketball Team.
