Louisville Metro Government is offering immunization clinics for anyone interested in obtaining the H1N1 vaccine. The clinics will operate four days a week from January 4 through January 22 and will be by appointment only. Both the nasal flu mist and the injection forms of the vaccine will be available.

Following a great deal of debate, the Metro Council approved the appointment of Rosemary Mattingly to the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Protection Board by a 14-6 vote with 2 members voting present.

Mayor Jerry Abramson announced additional spending reductions that include closing libraries and community centers one day a week and eliminating all street paving through June 30, 2009, to help close a $20 million budget hole.

By law, television stations nationwide must end their analog broadcast and begin broadcasting exclusively in a digital format after February 17, 2009. Digital television, or DTV, is an innovative technology that delivers crystal clear pictures and sound, more channels and even free over-the-air high-definition television (HDTV) to consumers with HD television sets.

The Metro Council will be reviewing the Metro Parks Budget between June 4 and June 25. The Metro Council will also host two hearings in which the public is invited to participate by signing up to speak for up to 3 minutes. The two hearings will be held on Wednesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 18. On May 28th, Councilman Kramer joined representatives from the Fern Creek/Highview United Ministries (FCHUM), community leaders and church volunteers as they held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony. Taking into consideration a tight economy and budget constraints, a Metro Council Work Study group has presented a progress report for expansion and growth of the Louisville Free Public Library system.

1) Chimney Rock Lane - clean approximately 35 feet of paved channel at the southwest corner of 2928 Chimney Rock Lane. Regrade approximately 150 feet of earthen channel from the end of the paved channel to the southwest corner of 2924 Chimney Rock Lane.

On February 9, officials gathered at St. Michael Orthodox Church to break ground on a project that will provide apartment housing for area senior citizens. The project culminates a three-year process for St. Michael. Funding through the Federal Government and Louisville Metro will assist in this development.

Councilman Kramer has been appointed Vice Chair of the Information, Technology and Communications steering committee of the National League of Cities (NLC) for 2008.

On February 2, Councilman Kramer hosted the third annual "District 11 Neighborhood Leader Roundtable." In response to constituent concerns, Councilman Kramer has worked with the State Department of Transportation to implement new signage along Breckenridge Lane. The state will be installing "Speed Zone Ahead" and "Reduced Speed Ahead" signs along Breckenridge Lane where appropriate.

Many of you have read about the recent criminal activity in the Furman Boulevard/Highgate Springs Neighborhood area. Over the past several weeks, there have been several serious incidents including two rapes and an attempted kidnapping on Radiance Road.

On January 19, members of the Metro Council and Council staff took on the St. Gabriel Men's Club in basketball. Proceeds from ticket sales went to the Fern Creek/Highview Ministries. This year the Council squad was soundly defeated (to protect the innocent, we will not print the score!), but the team has vowed revenge in 2009!

Message From Councilman Kramer - The Future of the Libraries

Although election day has passed, the work to build better libraries is just beginning. With the 67% to 33% failure of the Library Tax, Metro Government must now look within itself to fund library improvements. To ensure we have the opportunity to move the Library Master Plan forward, two ordinances (O-278-11-07) and (O-279-11-07) were submitted for a first reading at the Thursday, November 8 2007 meeting of the Louisville Metro Council.

The District 11 "Clean Team" spent several hours on Saturday, October 27 cleaning the Hikes Point area. Please see photos below. Special thanks to Operation Brightside, Republic Bank, and Heine Brothers Coffee for their help with the event.

Members of the Louisville Metro Council, AT&T and Hilliard Lyons held a press conference at the Lac Viet Academy to announce the awarding of $175,000 in funds to ConnectKentucky’s No Child Left Offline Project. The allocated funds will be used to install or upgrade computers used by students at locally operated non-profit centers. The funding will go towards the installation of computers at sites in Louisville Metro and marks the first local partnership in Jefferson County.

Councilman Kevin Kramer announced a new partnership that will fight graffiti attacks in District 11. Kramer has submitted a Neighborhood Development Funding request that will allocate funding to Ninth and O Baptist Church (4401 Breckenridge Lane) to purchase paint, brushes, rollers, and safety vests for church volunteers. Volunteers will use the equipment to paint over graffiti tagged on public property.

Councilman Kevin Kramer will hold a District 11 Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, October 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Hunsinger Lane Baptist Church. Representatives from the Police and Fire departments, Inspections, Permits, and Licenses, Public Works, Brightside, Animal Services, the Health Department, and LG&E will be present to address concerns/issues from District 11 constituents.

Councilman Kramer along with the Canaan Community Development Corporation will sponsor a one-time class on using the MetroWatch program. This class will be held on Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 pm at Canaan Christian Church (2840 Hikes Lane.)

District 11 Capital Infrastructure Funding was recently allocated to repair eroded curbs along Klondike Lane. The work was completed in Mid-August.

Mid Dale and Klondike area residents met on Thursday, August 23 to continue the planning process for an area neighborhood association. Approximately fifteen residents met with Walter Munday from the Department of Neighborhoods and Graham Honaker, representing Metro Councilman Kevin Kramer's office. Topics of discussion included:

Major Robert Johnson has taken over as the new commander for the Louisville Metro Police Department's 6th Division (the division that covers District 11.)

Louisville Metro Police now has a new online crime mapping tool called MetroWatch, part of the Keep Louisville Safe program. The new tool allows citizens to go online and map crimes that have occurred in their neighborhoods during the past 30 days.

At the July 26 meeting, the Metro Council approved a resolution to place a new tax to expand the county's library system on the November ballot. I want to take this opportunity to explain what happened last night in the discussion about the proposed library tax.

Graffiti has been removed from the Breckenridge Lane Detention Basin. The basin, constructed last year, has been the target of graffiti over the past several months. The District 11 office is currently working with MSD and the Louisville Metro Police Department to prevent future graffiti incidents. If you see any suspicious activity taking place in the basin, please notify the 6th Division Police Department at 574-2187 or 574-2111.

New sidewalk has been constructed on Pamela Way, from Hunsinger Lane to McMahan Boulevard. Funding for the project comes from the District 11 Capital Infrastructure Fund.

Councilman Kramer and the Canaan Community Development Corporation are sponsoring their second Computer Literacy Classes for Senior Citizens of Metro Louisville. Seniors will be given computer instruction once a week for five consecutive weeks starting September 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Each class will last approximately 2 hours and will take place at Canaan Christian Church (2840 Hikes Lane).
